ISLANDS UNDERWATER

Beneath the waves of the sea is a vibrant ecosystem full of color, adventure and joy, waiting to be discovered and enjoyed. This is the world of the dolphin, a being of energy, curiosity and good humor.

ISLANDS UNDERWATER is an exterior, on grade, amoeboid shaped, interactive water feature. The water feature consists of five separate island experiences, each with their own unique displays. A membrane-depth pool will span throughout the center of the water feature, visually connecting the island experiences, and creating a shared open space in the center. We ask visitors to to explore and appreciate the colorful underwater ecosystem for which we are all responsible.

ISLANDS UNDERWATER is a water-animated theatrical space providing fun and imaginative, interactive play experiences. It is like no other immersive fountain in the world, providing Abu Dhabi with a world class, first of its kind, family-oriented experience, beautifully crafted, and transmitting meaningfully positive social and environmental messages.

The unique experience of ISLANDS UNDERWATER is especially established first by its monumental architectural canopy—its shade structure—which is suspended over the entire water play area. The canopy suggests sea waves rolling through giant sea lilies. The canopy filters and colors the daylight with wave-like, blue-green shading to soften and cool the environment. Numerous animated water expressions and space design gestures combine to establish ISLANDS UNDERWATER’s unique identity and fun experiences. A ‘Kelp Forest’ sways with the waves. ‘Underwater Islands’ create multiple epicenters, and a ‘Central Court’ provides calming heart. ‘Coral Cascades’ offer scenic climbing and splashing spaces. The sequencing arches of ‘Undulating Arrays’ reiterate the watery messages of the deep while ‘Swim Paths’ provide tunnelling adventures. ‘Sea Grasses’ rise and fall, enriching the underwater scenery, while ‘Starfish Family’ and ‘Anemone Field’ further accessorize the spaces with kenetic actions with underwater identities. Finally, ‘Sea Mists’ puff here and there, to draw mystery into the sense of place. The scene of the fountain is artful and abstract, with role-playing water elements arranged to convey the values and beauties of the underwater world, which in reality is just off the edge of the park, steps away, in the Arabian Sea…
